‘Alb ascend′ tunnel

Progressively climbing from the Neckar valley the Alb ascension rail track connects the lowlands of the Alb region to the high plateau of the Swabian Jura. Over the entire length of about 16 km the tunnel climbs 326 metres in height.
On the basis of the construction process and the intended concreting method for the tubbing elements, a completely new installation system was required to cast the channels required for the catenary overhead cables in the concrete tubbing segments. HALFEN therefore developed an innovative system for installing an exact alignment of anchor channels to steel formwork. The system comprises a newly developed, conical-shaped fixing, an (A4) stainless steel washer and a plastic bolt. Tubbings could then be cast with the same formwork – with or without cast-in channels. This innovative solution provided the customer with various advantages.
HALFEN supplied HALFEN HTA-CE-CS 52/34, and HTA-CE 38/17 Channels and HALFEN HFC Fixing cones for this tunnel, for this once in a life time project for the Deutsche Bahn AG (German Railways).
