Singapore Power Transmission Cable Tunnel Project
Singapore

The SGD 2bn High Voltage Cable Tunnel Project includes the construction of two cross-island tunnels with a total length of 35km. The two tunnels will each have a diameter of six metres. The project requires a combination of conventional drill & blast and (TBM) tunnel boring machines for its construction. The project which started in 2012 is due for completion in 2018. The North-South Tunnel, which is slightly longer than the East-West Tunnel is 18.5km long and links Gambas and May Road, while the shorter tunnel at 16.5km runs from Ayer Rajah to Paya Lebar.
Heavy congestion in Singapore, both above and below ground required planning an average depth of 60 metres for the HV cable tunnels. This will minimize disrupting traffic, businesses and residents when repairs, maintenance or upgrades are required in the future.
HALFEN supplied more than 50.000 high quality, stainless steel HB-BZ anchor bolts to one of the contractors. The supplied anchor bolts will be used to fix the main cable supports and the runway beams for the tunnel inspection vehicle throughout the entire tunnel.
