Moody Pedestrian Bridge

The Moody Pedestrian Bridge is a one of a kind inverted Fink Truss Bridge. The bridge connects 2 buildings as part of the Moody College of Communication at the University of Texas. The bridge crosses over Dean Keaton Street near Guadalupe Avenue, a busy 4 lane road entering the University of Texas Campus. The bridge is characterized by a series of slender steel towers that vary in height and scale. DETAN Tension rods in various lengths connect the steel towers to the bridge structure. The combination of the steel towers and tension rods provide an elegant look to the bridge.
This type of bridge is the first of its kind in the United States and the only one worldwide with a single support tower as the main loading member. The overall length of the bridge is 300' (91 metres) with a slender 65' (21metres) high tower, which provides a gateway to the university campus for students and visitors alike. The bridge also has integrated aesthetic lighting in its stainless steel railings for an attractive night-time look.
DETAN Tension rods in various lengths were engineered and designed to connect the towers to the bridge itself. Additional DETAN Rods were used at the tops of the steel towers and also as a cross brace at the bottom of the main tower. Rods were provided in HDG material and then were painted to match the steel towers.
