Post Tower
Bonn, Germany

The construction company commissioned for the 162,5 m high Post Tower in Bonn, designed by the Chicago architect Helmut Jahn, were faced with extreme challenges during construction of this building. Using HALFEN HBT Rebend connections and self-climbing formwork; efficient construction of the stair-well tower was made possible. Walls and stair-landing were easily connected to the stair-well tower using the HBT Rebend connections without hindering the complex self-climbing formwork. The distinctive external façade was fixed with HALFEN HTA Cast-in channels. The good adjustability of the system helped to increase construction progress. At the same time the previously cast-in channels proved to be the more effective solution to avoid drilling for anchor plugs connections and possibly damaging the cooling pipes in the concrete floor slabs. A further practical benefit of the HALFEN Channels was as a fixing point for mandatory fall protection guardrails during the construction phase. The rebend connections made it possible to keep to the tight construction schedule– the target was to complete one floor each week. The housing of the reinforcement connections are profiled steel to ensure a positive shear load transfer.
