In its permanent exhibition the federal state museum of Zurich displays Swiss cultural history from the beginnings to the present and gives an insight in to Swiss identity and the many aspects of the country’s history and culture. Construction of the extension for the federal state museum building in the Platzspitzareal was started in 2013 and is scheduled for completion in 2016. The building from 1898 designed by Gustav Gull is reminiscent of a fairy tale castle with a new contemporary extension. The extension offers the necessary space for flexible usage; for temporary exhibitions, an auditorium and a study centre for schools and universities. Facilities for a museum restaurant are also planned.
The design by the Basel Architects “Christ & Gantenbein Architekten” envisages, like the old building, the new extension is clad in stone and that the prominent motifs on the roofs, also find application in the new building. The physical proximity of the two buildings will also help the two buildings merge.
HALFEN supplied façade slab anchors, HALFEN Channels and DEMU Socket anchors.
