La Marseillaise Tower
Marseille, France

The “La Marseillaise” tower created by architect Jean Nouvel, forms the largest part of the new maritime façade of the Euroméditerranée redevelopment project in Marseille. Its protective sunscreens made from UHPFRC (ultra-high performance fibre-reinforced concrete) match the greyness of their surrounding landscape whilst giving the tower a unique kinetic dimension as they reflect the blues of the sky and sea, and scintillate with red hues.
Features of the construction:
Height: 135 metres over 31 floors.
A reinforced concrete core surrounded by more than 3,500 pieces of prefab UHPFRC (brise-soleil screens and external gangways) ensure the building is weathertight with joinery work fixed directly onto the UHPFRC elements.
The installation of the UHPFRC, which was facilitated by the HALFEN FPA system specially modified for this project, with the addition of special rails and T-FIXX® fixing anchors, made it possible for VCF to install one layer of UHPFRC per week, i.e.112 elements every week and sometimes even as many as 125.
It took less than 8 months to install the UHPFRC elements.
