The Broad Art Museum
Los Angeles, CA

We are pleased that HALFEN HZA DYNAGRIP Toothed Anchor Channels were used in the construction of the recently opened Broad Art Museum in Los Angeles, California. The exceptional design by the architectural office, Diller Scofidio + Renfro, emphasizes the dual purpose of the building.
The “Vault”, which forms the second floor of the building consists of 36 million pounds of concrete, holds Eli and Edythe Broad’s unique collection of post-war and contemporary artwork. Visitors have spectacular views to the exhibit space on the first and third floors on selected pieces of artwork. The building is covered by “the Veil”, which consists of 2,500 fiberglass reinforced concrete panels. The 318 skylights and the multiple openings in the walls allow natural light to infiltrate the exhibition space to create a unique atmosphere throughout the 35,000 square feet, column-free floor space of the third floor. HALFEN HZA DYNAGRIP Toothed Anchor Channels connect the extensive glass panels on the first and third floors safely to the concrete construction.
Because of the large wind and seismic loads requirements, the anchorage of the large glass panels was a special challenge. HALFEN USA was able to provide the ideal solution. The interlock between the HZA DYNAGRIP Anchor Channel’s toothed lips and the toothed T-bolts allows the transfer of load in all three directions. The HALFEN Engineering team supported the glass designer, Seele, in designing the anchorage and getting approval from the City of Los Angeles to use the toothed Anchor Channels. Using HALFEN anchor channels helped to speed construction. On-site welding and post installed anchors was not required.
HALFEN USA Inc. was available and offered on-site support as required for the duration of the product installation process.
