Airport Moscow-Scheremetjewo
Moscow, Russia

The Moscow-Scheremetjewo Airport is the largest airport in the greater Moscow area as well as in the whole of Russia with over 26 million passengers a year (data from: 2012).The airport started international flights in 1959 to become Scheremetjewo-international Airport. In 1980 work began on a second terminal building “Scheremetjewo-II“. The extension built by German companies is modelled on the terminal buildings at the airport in Hanover, Germany. Scheremetjewo is an airport with two separate terminal buildings; one building is situated to the north of the runway and the other to the south. At present the terminals south of the airport D, E and F are for international air-traffic. Alitalia, Delta Air Lines, Aeroflot, Air France, El Al, Finnair, JAL, KLM, SAS und Korean Air are just some of the 70 international airlines that use the „Scheremetjewo-II“ terminals.
The international terminals are connected by two pedestrian walkways in the public zone and in the secure transfer zone. Terminal area D, for which HALFEN supplied DETAN Rod system, was opened to the public mid November 2009. The elements of the DETAN Rod systems in this project were used as design elements and deliberately left visible. The result is an elegantly well-designed structure.
